21 Days until Christmas

Are you ready for Christmas? I'm not. I still have my parents and sisters, brother, and niece to buy for. Hunter still needs a birthday present and a Christmas present. He wants a Nintendo Ds even though he has a Gameboy Micro. We still have stocking stuffers to buy. I made a request to buy stocking stuffers for each other this year (Bo and I) because I miss that I guess about Christmas. We don't buy for each other. Although I may take the checkbook out one day and buy him some stuff because he doesn't get much for Christmas. Neither does Hunter. This is mostly because their birthdays are right before Christmas. Bo's is on the 14th and Hunter's on the 21st. This makes it difficult to buy birthday and Christmas gifts for both of them.

The kids and I have been busy with preparations for my Brother in law to come up here from Alabama. They are excited but they are having a hard time with keeping the house clean. We are doing a Christmas activity a day with our chain. This is a tradition that I started with them when they were little. It helps them to stay occupied during the day while anticipating Christmas day. They don't believe in Santa because we thought we would be truthful with our kids. We feel that telling our kids that there is a Santa Claus is lying to them because there isn't a Santa Claus. They follow the true meaning of Christmas. The birth of Jesus. However some people would probably would say why ruin the magic of Santa for your kids. Well... When I was about 10, I still believed in Santa Claus. My mom took us to visit Santa at the town Christmas tree lighting. I had seen him do this before me but I didn't think anything of it. I had a huge list of things I wanted to tell him. I couldn't wait. When it finally got to be my turn, I went to sit on Santa's lap, he said "Nope, to big, next!" I looked at him like he was crazy. I don't remember much after that except that I only told him one thing that I wanted for Christmas out of the whole big list that I had just a few minutes before. My mom wrote a letter to the newspaper. She was shocked that someone who plays a Santa Claus would be so inconsiderate of little kids that way. The only part of the letter that I remember is that she said that Santa Claus lives in your heart. It's the giving and the magic that lives in your heart not in a physical person. I was still troubled by it. So when our kids were born, we decided that we would instill the truth about Santa Claus to our kids. I never want them to see disappointment about a magical creature. Some people may think that this ruins their childhood. It doesn't. They know that we celebrate Christmas because of the birth of baby Jesus. They know that the gift giving is because the 3 Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus after he was born. It's not because of a man in a red suit who flies around in a sled on Christmas Eve giving gifts to millions upon millions of children each night. We keep our truth. I'm not saying that it isn't wrong for someone else. But this is how we do it.

Have a great day. I know I will

Geez, I hope that porky Santa was fired. Not good. I dunno when I learned he wasn't real, but I know I wasn't too upset. I do the Santa thing, but not to the extreme craziness, that I have seen a lot of folks go. I spend way more (as it should be) time on Jesus. None of my other kids were tramatized either cuz we didn't focus on it as much. Good points in your post tho....it is such a personal thing and can get folks feathers ruffled (gee, like politics)-I give you Kuddos for discussing it. Blessings.

Hello Again!

It has been a long road these past few years. There have been many trials and tribulations. But I have made it through to the other side. I ...
